Central Asia
- Agriculturalist
In Central Asia, village families barely make enough to feed themselves through the winter. Years of poor agricultural practices mean the soil quality is decreasing. Many farmers grow wheat or cotton year-after-year to meet government quotas. They are usually poorly paid for their efforts.
Some farmers are willing to experiment with new crops or farming methods but lack the "know-how". They need someone to advise and mentor them as they try new things.
Our organization already has some small pilot projects underway: tomato drying, mushroom growing, fertilizing a wheat field for an orphanage, and community-based potato growing. But we don’t have enough agricultural knowledge to make more complex decisions and solve problems.
